Purpose
Atlantic type 4-4-2 locomotives 128 and 127 were the main motive power on the Riverside & Great Northern Railway from 1949 to 1980. With the addition of 129, we have an oil-fired Atlantic that will give us another aspect of steam locomotive operation. When 128 and 127 eventually return to service we will have three powerful locomotives to pull longer trains. But we need funding to get these locomotives into service, so we’ve established The Atlantic Club to fund the rebuilding and maintaining of the R&GN’s Atlantics.
How
Fans of the R&GN who would like to see 129 in service as soon as possible and 128 and 127 again in the not-too-distant future can donate to a fund that is overseen by a three-person committee, which will make recommendations to the board of directors on priority project spending. Our priority is to get 129 operating for daily service. After that, we will do what it takes to get 128 and then 127 back in service. The more funding we get, the sooner 128 and 127 will be back in service since they last operated at the R&GN (128 in 1980 and 127 in 1966).
Donation options
You may donate as much as you would like or as much as you can afford, but we have established the following
incentives for R&GN Atlantic fans. If you can’t donate the full amount all at once, you may provide a promissory note to
make the donation over the course of four years. You may also sign up for a monthly debit on your credit card for $12.80
a month (get it? $12.80 for 128 – just a little per month by a lot of people adds up to a lot to get 128 up and running
sooner than later). A little bit by a lot of people goes a long way!
Here are giving level options with special perks for those who donate:
Engineer = $1,000 donation. With your donation, you will receive a jacket with an Atlantic Club logo on it. When 129 is ready for service this Spring, we will hold a members-only day with free train rides behind 129 and a cookout. “Engineer” donors will get throttle time on 129. The same event will happen when 128 and 127 are ready.
Conductor = $750. With your donation, you will receive a sweater with an Atlantic Club logo on it. When 129 is ready for service we will hold a members-only day with free train rides behind 129 and a cookout. The same event will happen when 128 and 127 are ready.
Brakeman = $500. With your donation, you will receive a baseball cap with an Atlantic Club logo on it. When 129 is ready for service we will hold a members-only day with free train rides behind 129 and a cookout. The same event will happen when 128 and 127 are ready.
